The Educational Technology Specialist in the New York State public school system must be computer literate and familiar with the ethics involved in the use of technology. In addition, the Education Technology Specialist will be able to implement technology for the schools so that they have a supportive learning environment. The NYSTCE Educational Technology Specialist exam tests a person's knowledge to see that it complies with the New York State Academic Standards. Passing the test means that you are qualified to teach the use of technology in the New York State public school system.
The NYSTCE Educational Technology Specialist exam consists of ninety multiple-choice questions in the following areas: Foundations of Educational Computing and Technology, which comprises 22.5 percent of the exam; Professional Applications of Technology, which accounts for another 22.5 percent of the exam; Integrating Technology into Education, which comprises 22.5 percent of the exam; and Technology Leadership and Resource Management, which accounts for another 22.5 percent of the exam. The constructed-response question involving Integrating Technology into Education accounts for the final 10 percent of the exam.
