Candidates are given a number of options for NYSTCE registration. You can complete registration online any time before 5 p.m. EST of the deadline date set for the test(s) you intend to take. Online late or emergency registrations are available, but require supplementary fees. Candidates can send in registration via U.S. mail during the regular registration period, so long as it is postmarked by the deadline. Late registration via mail must be received by the late registration deadline. Emergency registration is available only online or by telephone. The number to call is (413) 256-2882 between 9 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday EST. When completing your NYSTCE registration by phone, remember that holidays are excluded.
Test seating is limited. Because some tests fill quickly, it's a good idea to register as early as possible for your preferred location and tests. Expect to pay all registration fees up front.
Changing a test area, date, or selection requires a Change of Registration Request form, which must be received by the late registration deadline for the test you are changing from or changing to, whichever comes first. To add another test, you'll need to submit a Test Add Request form by the late NYSTCE registration deadline. Withdrawing from a test requires the receipt of a Withdrawal/Refund Request form by the late registration deadline. These changes to registration can be done online or by mail only.
Register to take the NYSTCE exam at the NYSTCE website. Registration fees range from $88 to $145. Late registrations are assessed an additional $30 fee, and emergency registrations an additional $70. Out-of-state registrations are also charged an additional $70 fee. Changes to an existing registration cost $20, and additional copies of results can be purchased for $15. Partial refunds are given for withdrawals, as long as the request form is received in a timely fashion.
Online NYSTCE registration must be paid by VISA or MasterCard, or with a debit or check card displaying a VISA or MasterCard logo that doesn't need a PIN. Mail registration can be paid with a personal check, cashier's check, or money order. Additional fees must be paid by cashier's check or money order only.
