An educator in the area of technology must have the knowledge and skills to understand technology in all of its many aspects along with an understanding of technological systems and procedures. The NYSTCE Technology Education exam tests a person in these areas, and more particularly, in manufacturing, transportation, communication, power, and energy and more. Passing this exam qualifies a person to teach in the New York State public school system and demonstrates that the person has the knowledge and skills that are in accordance with the New York State Academic Standards.
The NYSTCE Technology Education exam is comprised of approximately ninety multiple-choice questions in the following areas: Communication Systems-12 percent of the exam; Technology-30 percent of the exam; Manufacturing and Construction Systems-12 percent of the exam; Bio-related Systems-12 percent of the exam; Power and Energy Systems-12 percent of the exam; and Transportation Systems-12 percent of the exam. There is also one constructed-response question worth 10 percent of the exam in the area of Fundamentals of Technology.
